Grades K–3
The power of DIBELS® is expanded with a new assessment tool developed specifically for young Spanish speaking readers! The Indicadores Dinámicos del Éxito en la Lectura (IDEL™) are measures developed to evaluate students’ performance in beginning reading skills in Spanish. IDEL measures are not a simple translation of DIBELS ... they are a reinvention of DIBELS measures. IDEL measures reflect the fact that Spanish, like English, is an alphabetic language, but that Spanish, unlike English, has a regular orthography in which letter sound correspondence is much more transparent. (Spanish has 30 letters, including ch, ll, and rr, and 22–24 phonemes as opposed to English that has 26 letters and 42–44 phonemes). The vocabulary used in the directions and the IDEL measures is considered a standard Spanish vocabulary.
IDEL features benchmark materials for grades K-3 which are administered 3 times and year and progress monitoring measures for grades 1-3 that can be given as often as necessary to determine the effectiveness of any intervention program.
