For more than 35 years, The Herman Method has maintained its status as a successful small group reading intervention for struggling students. Newly revised, the program now incorporates the latest reading research into its multisensory approach to teaching reading in small groups. The content has been consolidated and redesigned into a streamlined format that makes it easier for teachers to use class time more efficiently.

The New Herman Method provides instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Its Orton-Gillingham-based multisensory approach is used in thousands of schools nationwide and has proved successful with inner-city classes, English language learners, and learning-disabled students.

The New Herman Method:

• Sequentially and systematically teaches students reading, spelling, handwriting, and composition skills.
• Incorporates visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile modalities
• Provides more opportunities for student responses in every lesson through a technique called "Attribute Reading"
• Introduces new procedures to aid teachers and students in successfully completing the introduction to new graphemes for reading, handwriting, spelling, and dictation activities.
• Incorporates materials that have been updated and reformatted for ease of use
• Includes pictures and stories that have been updated to align with today's vocabulary and editorial standards for cultural responsiveness
