Language Arts Assessment

Author: Children’s Progress, Inc.
Grades PreK-3

Structure of the Assessment

This standards-aligned assessment measures skill development in core content areas for preK-3 students. Pinpointing a language arts weakness early empowers teachers to implement targeted supplements and interventions, setting the foundation for continued success. The Children’s Progress Language Arts Assessment features:

  • Language arts content aligned with state standards
  • Adaptive scenarios that change difficulty depending on a child’s responses
  • Immediate, detailed reports that show a child, a class, or a school
  • Recommended teaching activities to support instruction
  • A child-friendly experience that students can complete independently in 10 to 20 minutes; no one-on-one administration
  • Unlimited access for multiple assessments over the course of the year

The Language Arts Assessment measures skill development in four core content areas:

  • Listening Skills
    • Listening
    • Comprehension
  • Phonemic Awareness
    • Initial sound
    • Rhyming
  • Phonics/Writing
    • Letter identification
    • Spelling
    • Editing
  • Reading Fluency and Comprehension
    • Concepts of print
    • Sight reading/decoding
    • Sentence reading

The patented Adaptive Assessment approach adapts with every response that a child makes. A correct response leads to a more challenging question; an incorrect response is followed by hints or scaffolding. The goal: to identify the child’s Zone of Proximal Development-those concepts that a child is on the cusp of learning, where targeted instruction is most effective.
