Grades 4–8 and Intervention 9–12
Words for Academic Writing is a new supplemental vocabulary program that teaches
students to successfully apply academic words in their writing across content areas.
Appropriate for students in grades 4–8 as well as for high school intervention classes, this
program is designed to teach the words that are most frequently encountered in school
writing assignments.
Words for Academic Writing provides a research-based format for directly teaching writing
vocabulary and multiple opportunities for students to deeply process the meanings of
words and to practice using them. The clear, concise, and sometimes scripted directions
make this program perfect for teachers, paraprofessionals, and homeschooling parents.
The program can be implemented in several ways:
- As an introductory language arts unit with a focus on generalizing the use of
academic words commonly found in written assignments across the curriculum
- As a daily warm-up activity designed to increase student understanding and use of
academic words
- As part of a language arts intervention or summer school program
Master Set includes Teacher Guide and a set of 10 Student Books.
Teacher Guide includes CD-ROM containing pre/posttests and blackline masters. |
