Step Up to Writing Trainings
Grade Level:

Step Up to Writing® features research-based, hands-on writing strategies and activities that help students proficiently write narrative, personal narrative, and expository pieces; actively engage in reading materials for improved comprehension; and demonstrate competent study and critical thinking skills. This comprehensive resource creates a common writing language throughout the grade levels and content areas. With multiple strategies for each phase of the writing process, Step Up can fill in the gaps in the core curriculum or act as the core writing instruction.
Training Options
The following training options are available to support your implementation. These are highly recommended to ensure fidelity of implementation. Open (Public) Training: Open trainings provide in-depth program training—including program research, materials, methods, and implementation. Using an interactive, practice-driven training process, the training session prepares participants to immediately begin implementing the program. Open trainings are offered on a per-person tuition bases and are a great opportunity for smaller groups and individuals to receive training.
Face-to-Face Training:
The initial face-to-face training session provides in-depth program training—including program research, materials, methods, and implementation. Using an interactive, practice-driven training process, the training session prepares participants to immediately begin implementing the program. Face-to Face trainings are a great opportunity to receive training district/school-wide.
Refresher Training:
Designed for teachers who have previously implemented the program, this training session is focused on refreshing teachers’ understanding of the program as they begin a new school year.
Advanced Training:
Designed for teachers who have implemented the program for a year or more, this training session is focused on developing a greater depth of knowledge about the program, as well as to refine instructional delivery. The content of this session can be customized to meet the specifics of a district’s instructional focus, and/or include model lessons, and information on how to respond to implementation challenges.
Private TOT:
Training of Trainers (TOT) provides a challenging, intensive training experience that prepares participants to train other educators in their district. Building local training capacity has been shown to increase fidelity, sustainability, and quality of instruction—resulting in greater student achievement. TOTs are a great opportunity to receive training district/school-wide.
Open (Public) TOT:

All-New! Mapping Step Up to Writing Aligns to the Common Core Open Training:
This is an Open Training in which you'll learn how you can use Step Up to Writing strategies to meet Common Core State Standards, focusing specifically on Informational/Explanatory, Narrative, and Opinion writing. You will take home adaptable lesson plans, as well as an assessment plan and progress monitoring forms. The all-new Step Up to Writing Implementation Guide for grades K-5 is included in the training.
